Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.)—author of the federal “assault weapon” and “large” ammunition magazine ban of 1994-2004—has announced that on the first day of the new Congress—January 3rd— she will introduce a bill to which her 1994 ban will pale by comparison. On Dec. 17th, Feinstein said, “I have been working with my staff for over a year on this legislation” and “It will be carefully focused.” Indicating the depth of her research on the issue, she said on Dec. 21st that she had personally looked at pictures of guns in 1993, and again in 2012.

According to a Dec. 27th posting on Sen. Feinstein’s website and a draft of the bill obtained by NRA-ILA, the new ban would, among other things, adopt new definitions of “assault weapon” that would affect a much larger variety of firearms, require current owners of such firearms to register them with the federal government under the National Firearms Act, and require forfeiture of the firearms upon the deaths of their current owners. Some of the changes in Feinstein’s new bill are as follows:

The Second Amendment to the Constitution is in no way as obsolete as some might have you believe, and this attack upon it by Senator Feinstein only serves to point out why it needs to remain intact and scrupulously adhered to. Some have called her actions treason. I would perhaps not go that far, but it certainly looks like she has broken her oath of office. She has also shown that she is not only a hypocrite when it comes to carrying a firearm, but is either too stupid to check her facts and educate herself about the weapons she is trying to ban and look at the actual crime statistics, or she intentionally fabricates lies to further her personal agenda. In any case, any or all of these should call for censure at the very least, or ought to clue in the voters of California to the fact that she should be fired. Lying in office, oath breaking, or stupidity are all suitable grounds for a recall. The following are the opening and closing paragraphs of a longer letter I've sent to all of my CongressCritters: ---------------------------- Please “shoot down” Senator Dianne Feinstein’s attempt at “over the top” gun-ban legislation, and you need to do so quickly. While probably not possible, I would strongly recommend “putting a muzzle” on this hypocritical, willfully ignorant fanatic if you ever hope to have any kind of meaningful discussions on attempting to limit gun violence. She is pushing her own personal agenda, and one that is likely to result in a much wider-spread backlash, including the violence she so obviously fears. ....... Guns are not inherently evil. It is only in the heart and mind controlling the hand that holds it that evil might be found. Guns are merely tools with multiple uses. Yes, a gun can take a life, but it can also save it. It can put meat on the table, or provide enjoyment through skilled use and in competitions. A gun can also make the statement for the holder that, “I can and will defend myself, my home, my way of life, and others against those who would do us harm.” Some will see this last as a threat, particularly those who would try to take a gun away from you. But it is in truth only a warning and a statement of purpose. In this case, it is just to those of evil intent that your holding a gun becomes a threat.

Sen. Feinstein mistakenly believes that more laws will help criminals realize that they should now follow the law. It is so childishly stupid that I cannot believe that more of the American public can't see through it. It's unfortunate what happened in the recent school shooting, but it was already against the law to possess a firearm on school grounds and "oh yeah" it was also still against the law to murder people. New laws aren't going to fix that kind of Evil, it will just make it more difficult for honest, law-abiding citizens to defend themselves from it.
